Citizens becomes Journalist

Citizens are the pillars of any nation .Their contribution  plays a very important role in the success of the country .As modern media replaced the old media traditions ,they started to communicate their viewers and their communication became more effective through the emails and messages from viewers and now they have provided us an opportunity to show our own reports on t.v on any effective topic which may have got attention of higher authorities. Finally this opportunity becomes profession for citizens and named as "Citizen Journalism"

To encourage the citizen journalism and to elaborate its concepts among students of journalism Mr.Owais Mangalwala conveyed an impressive lecture on Citizen Journalism at Jinnah University for women. Mr.Owais Mangalwala has been with Dawn News Channel since2007.He had produced  two shows "wired and actives"and state of Sharia"on Dawn News  and now he is anchoring in his own production "Citizen Journalism".He is also known as Documentary Filmmaker .

Highlighting the concepts of the show Mr. Mangalwala said:

                                         "A citizen can use the tool of journalism in order to communicate the mass audience.Its not like to convey your own opinion or idea to the world because a reporter  do not convey his own opinion that's why the concept of our show is like an eye witness"

 Eye witness formalized according to the four categories of journalism:

• Sharing his/her own experience
• Sharing of opinion by others
• Sharing of discovery
• Sharing of expertise 

AREAS OF FOCUS:

He further highlighted the areas of focus and the key points the citizen journalist must have to follow.He said that  :" Citizen Journalism has fourteen key points"

1. Necessity to be real     
2. How to report
3. Eye for news
4. Difference of news and noise
5. Interest in topic
6. Avoid exaggeration
7. Be accurate
8. Sense of word selection
9. Grammar and writing style
10. Avoid copying and pasting
11. Make rules for yourself
12. Contact to reliable sources
13. Implement over feedbacks
14. Express report in your own style

Every one can be a reporter, if follow these key points .The main and interesting point of these points is no.5" Interest in topic".He clearly emphasized on this point and said that:"Never think that the selection of your topic is bore .Enjoy your work, whatever  topic you have do it with creativity and fun"

                              Finally the lecture was ended but we had to submit our feedback on the   advertisement of the morning show on Dawn news "Mast Morning with Maira",though it was completely   apart  from lecture and most of the students were not interested in listening to it (including me) and several of them don't like the host of the morning show Maira Khan and they suggested to replace her as well.
